2011 and beyond ...

2011 is the second year in the 3 years THRIP cycle. Last year saw the conclusion of a number of projects initiated in the 2007 - 2009 cycle, concentrated largely on the development of further eServices for the platform in Dwesa. This year the main effort is along the three key research areas on :

12th Annual Conference on World Wide Web Applications

The World Wide Web applications conference (ZAWWW2010) took place in Durban on the 21st - 23rd September 2010 at the Graduate School of Business, University of Kwazulu-Natal. This conferences aims a providing a platform for academics, practitioners, and developers who specialize in eServices (eGovernment, eCommerce, eSociety, eHealth, ect) applications.

This year six postgraduate students from the Telkom Centre of Excellence attended this conference. They presented the work undertaken within the Siyakhula Living Lab, the flagship ICTD intervention of the center.

SAICSIT 2010 - Fountains of Computing Research

Bela Bela : The theme for the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT) 2010 conference was on "Fountains of Computing Research" - with the focus on addressing computing research as reflected in real-world applications.

The conference, which took place on the 11th - 13th October  in Bela Bela - South Africa, was attended by three postgraduate students within the   Telkom Centre of Excellence in ICT for Development.

STELLENBOSCH – Telkom SA, Africa’s largest integrated communications service provider, once again hosted the annual Southern African Telecommunications Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC), from Sunday 5 September to Wednesday 8 September 2010. SATNAC 2010, the 13th of its Annual Conference series, was held at the beautiful and lush Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Best paper award at IST Africa conference

DURBAN- The IST Africa 2010 Conference Organizing and Programme Committees recently honored five Masters students from the University of Fort Hare who are working under the Telkom Centre of Excellence hosted in the Department of Computer Science.  They won the Best Paper Award, for their submission entitled 'Technology Solution
