SLL network expansion
06/23/2011 - 19:20

last week we had a trip to dwesa to do a physical test on wimax connectivity to the new/additional schools that SLL proposes to provide with internet connectivity. A new wimax cpe was configured/registered to the base station(at Ngwane) so it may recognise it and then we went to each school and tried to find a best line of sight(with base station) position and we position the cpe to face BS and we look at the indicator to see if there is any detection. If there is how strong it is etc.....

Web service and client progress report
03/11/2011 - 20:08

This month is about developing a basic web service and client, the client will send a print request with a file attached for printing and the web service will communicate with the printer to print the attached document. To achieve this goal I decided to start by making a simple JAX-WS (Java API for XML Web Servies) web service that receives text from the client and prints that text on paper.

Research Rumble
02/28/2011 - 15:16

The research rumble 2011, was a new and useful experience or me. It addressed topics that I found interesting, such as time management, identifying your most productive time of the day, staying away from destruction, how to  write a proposal, what content is important and produces a good proposal and the fact that all these came from academics who have made use of the tips and proved them useful as well. Also I have learned tips on how to conduct research, how to select sources and which are the type of sources to look out for.

At the present moment I ddnt experience problems I couldn't solve hence I ddn't ask for a lot of help and I'm happy with the way thing are going at the moment.

Experimenting with future-proof architectures for ICTD service provisioning
08/05/2010 - 12:42

This is the tentative title of the project, which is investigating services architectures that leverage current and future trends in computing. The project seeks to explore the possible benefits and the impact of key computing trends that are currently underway - for example: cloud computing, social networking applications, semantic web, mobile computing, telephony applications, etc.

The focus of the research is yet to be well-defined and finalized.

Migrating Nonconventionalplans billing architecture to hotcakes
07/21/2010 - 11:09

At times developers may want to use cake applications is several projects. At times some of these applications may be very useful (e.g .non conventionalplans architecture application) but difficult to use as they might conflict each other due to naming conversion and data sources. Plugins are mini applications that reside in a main application. They contain their own models, controllers and views to make it possible to reuse them.
